Mati Jarve is a double board certified trial attorney. He is certified by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a Civil Trial Attorney and as a Civil Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocates.

His primary practice involves the litigation of personal injury matters involving professional malpractice, products liability, motor vehicle and premises liability issues.

The Million Dollar Advocates Forum (http://www.milliondollaradvocates.com) has recognized him for numerous multi-million dollar recoveries. For example:

  • $30.5 million jury verdict in Gloucester County for a man rendered a ventilator dependent quadriplegic in a car crash (reduced by 30% for his failure to wear a seatbelt)
  • $7.685 million jury verdict in Camden County for a woman broadsided by the driver of an SUV who ran a stop sign, causing catastrophic injuries. She was rendered totally and permanently disabled as a result of the crash.
  • $6.1 million jury verdict for the traumatic amputation of a pedestrian's leg who was struck by a SUV. Both Mr. Kaplan and Mr. Jarve were involved in this trial in Camden County
  • $2.9 Million jury verdict for a defective seatbelt retractor. The defective seatbelt of her car failed to restrain this 71 year old woman, causing her to break both legs.
  • $2.7 Million recovery for a products liability/medical malpractice/premises liability case. This truck driver was delivering Coca-Cola to a grocery store when an overhead door in the receiving area fell and struck him in the head. Surgery to restore function to his right arm and shoulder was unsuccessful and he could no longer work.
  • $2 Million recovery involving products liability/medical malpractice/premises liability arising from a work place injury. Mr. Jarve was co-counsel in this Pennsylvania matter. A 65 year old man suffered a closed head injury when he slipped and fell at work due to a leaky eye wash faucet. He was further injured while he was a patient at a rehabilitation hospital in Philadelphia.
  • $1.75 million recovery for a 20-year-old motorcyclist who lost his leg in an accident caused by a pothole on a country road that had been negligently maintained.
  • $1.5 Million settlement for orthopedic injuries caused by an auto accident in New York City. Mr. Jarve was admitted pro hac vice (for this one case) in the State of New York.
  • $1.14 million settlement for the wrongful death of a tow truck operator who was struck by a hit and run vehicle while assisting a disabled car on the shoulder of I-95 in Philadelphia.
  • $1.07 Million verdict against a farm worker for the wrongful death of a 14 year old boy operating a dirt bike on a farm in Cumberland County, New Jersey.
  • $1 Million recovery for a defectively designed piece of heavy equipment that caused serious orthopedic injuries in a work related accident.

Other Recent Cases of Significance

  • $975,000 settlement of a wrongful death lawsuit arising from a car accident on the New Jersey Turnpike. Mr. Jarve was co-counsel with New York attorneys in this federal district court case.
  • $725,000 binding arbitration award arising from an ambulance accident. The plaintiff Emergency Medical Technician was forced to give up her profession due to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder caused by the accident.
  • $700,000 recovery for the wrongful death of a 4 year old boy killed in an auto-truck accident on the Ohio Turnpike. Mr. Jarve was admitted pro hac vice in the State of Ohio to litigate this matter.
  • $691,840 gross jury verdict in Atlantic County, New Jersey involving a motorcycle-truck accident. The motorcyclist suffered serious orthopedic and internal injuries when he attempted to pass a truck making a left turn into a driveway.
  • $600,000 judgment for a herniated cervical disc caused by a bicycle-auto crash.
  • $500,000 recovery for a herniated lumbar disc, involving multiple surgeries. The New Jersey Supreme Court denied the insurance company’s appeal regarding underinsured motorists coverage, which resulted in this policy limit recovery.
  • $500,000 verdict for orthopedic injuries suffered by an 86 year old widow in a car-truck accident. The case was tried in Common Pleas Court in Philadelphia.

In addition to his practice as a trial attorney, he has been appointed by the American Arbitration Association to its panel of arbitrators. Similarly, he serves as court-appointed arbitrator for several southern New Jersey counties. He is also selected as an arbitrator in Uninsured and Underinsured cases on a regular basis.

Mr. Jarve’s non-legal interests include horses, cars and motorcycles.

He owns and operates Horseshoe Farm, along with his wife, Connie, son Chris, and daughter, Kati. Together, they breed, raise, sell, train and show Quarter Horses. In addition, he has represented many horse owners, veterinarians, farms and equine-related associations in various matters, including litigation.

His favorite toys are his Corvette and his Harley-Davidson. He enjoys going to horse shows, air shows, car shows and motorcycle runs. Perhaps not coincidentally, he regularly represents horsemen and motorcyclists in a variety of different matters.
